Should I wait as long as possible to clean my carpet?
No. Dirt is an abrasive, like sandpaper. Every time you step on the carpet, you grind dirt into the carpet's fibers.
The dirt cuts the carpet, as if you used a knife, causing your carpet to wear out faster. A dirty carpet will not last
nearly as long as a clean carpet. And while vaccuuming helps, by itself, it's simply not enough. The longer you wait to have
your carpets cleaned, the more damage you will do to your carpet and the faster it will wear out.
What process do you use to clean carpets?
Most of the carpet cleaning we do is the "hot water extraction" method, also known as "Steam Cleaning" This process is used by about 80% of all carpet cleaning companies across the country. Most major carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction as the preferred method of cleaning.
Should I have my carpet "dry cleaned" or "steam cleaned"?
As mentioned above, most major carpet manufacturers now recommend hot water extraction ("steam cleaning") as the preferred method. Like the laundering of your clothing, steam cleaning is highly effective in removing soil and other contaminants from your carpet. It is one of the five carpet cleaning processes that are officially recognized as an industry standard. To most people, "dry cleaning" means cleaning without water. The fact is that most carpet cleaning advertised as "dry" cleaning actually uses anywhere from a little, to a lot, of water!!. The dry powder cleaning utilizes a dry absorbent medium impregnated with solvents, detergent and water, which can result in a considerable amount of residue being deposited and remaining in the carpet after cleaning. For the most part, the "wet" cleaning method offers a much more efficient vehicle for removing as much of the cleaning detergent material as possible.
When can I put my carpet back in use after cleaning?
Following a thorough hot-water extraction cleaning, your carpet will be damp to the touch. It should be completely dry in 6-24 hours. You may walk on your clean carpet immediately following cleaning, but we recommend limiting the foot traffic until the carpet is completely dry.
It is advisable to avoid tracking-in outside soil onto the damp carpet and please do no remove the protective pads from under furnishings until your carpet is completely dry. To accelerate the drying time of your carpet, keep the interior temperature at a comfortable level and provide for air ventilation throughout the cleaned area.
